Zac Brown Band percussionist Daniel de los Reyes marries music and philanthropy
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Zac Brown has always surrounded himself with quality musicians, and that shows in the strength and purity of the music.
But as time has proven, the members of the Zac Brown Band are, even more importantly, quality people. Philanthropy is a huge part of Brown’s personal Camp Southern Ground, which serves all children, including those with autism, learning disorders, attention deficit disorder, social and emotional issues and “regular” kids.
It follows, then, that the same kind of commitment runs throughout the band’s membership, including percussionist Daniel de los Reyes.
De los Reyes, whose lineage is Cuban and Puerto Rican, was born in New York City, but his family is originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico. He himself was raised in the Puerto Rican city of Carolina, and his loyalty and love for his one-time home has seen him make more than 30 trips to the island since the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
He founded an organization called the DayGLOW Music Center, based in Georgia, to teach the art of percussion, but it’s become so much more than that, especially with the DayGLOW Relief Program.

The most arresting figure, however, is Mr. de los Reyes. More than any words he utters, the actor's haunted eyes, sunken cheeks and shaved head convey the extent of Pedro's torment. In repose, he's almost spectral. In the ring, he's like a short circuit, and his silent scream of triumph is a guaranteed spine-tingler.
—David Richards, theater reviewer for The New York Times[1]
De los Reyes appeared alongside Patrick Stewart as a "dashing, if thick-tongued" Ferdinand in a production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest.[2] In , de los Reyes was named on People Magazine's "Fabulous 50" list.[3] In , he starred in a television film, The Way She Moves, starr
